President Dissanayake to address UN general assembly today

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is scheduled to address the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) today (24) at 3:15 p.m. US time.


The President, who left Sri Lanka for the UNGA, arrived in the United States yesterday.


Upon his arrival at John F. Kennedy International Airport, he was received by Sri Lanka’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Jayantha Jayasuriya, and members of his delegation. 


During his visit, President Dissanayake is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with the UN Secretary-General and several world leaders, as well as with the Sri Lankan community residing in the US.


Following his visit to the United States, the President is scheduled to undertake an official visit to Japan from 27 to 30 September.


He is expected to meet with His Majesty the Emperor of Japan and the Japanese Prime Minister, address a Business Forum, and attend "EXPO 2025 Osaka" as a guest of the Japanese government.
