Private bus unions demand 5% fare hike after fuel price increase

04 Jun 2026 | BY Staff Writer

Private bus associations have requested a 5% fare increase following recent diesel price hikes in Sri Lanka.

The issue was discussed today (04) at the Ministry of Transport and Highways.

Bus operators say fuel costs have risen by Rs. 25 within a month, making operations difficult.

They also requested either a fare revision or a fuel subsidy.

An urgent meeting with the Transport Minister is expected to be held soon to further discuss the matter.
