Cabinet of Ministers has approved the signing of a renewed agreement with the Italian People's Government on the mutual recognition of driving licences.
The new agreement updates the previous pact, which expired in two thousand and twenty-one, by incorporating technological amendments and improved enforcement measures.
Under the terms, Sri Lankans residing in Italy for less than six years can convert their valid Sri Lankan licences to Italian ones.
Conversely, Italian nationals in Sri Lanka will have their Italian licences recognised as valid Sri Lankan licences.
The proposal was presented by the Minister of Transport, Highways, and Urban Development.
