Sri Lanka's Computer Emergency Readiness Team (CERT) reports that a total of 6,512 complaints related to cybercrimes on social media were filed during the first seven months of this year.
According to CERT Senior Engineer Charuka Damunupola, 1,198 of these complaints were related to financial fraud.
Other incidents included the creation of fake Facebook accounts, online sexual harassment, defamation, and the hacking of WhatsApp accounts.
