The Government Analyst’s Department has officially confirmed that samples recovered from a property in the Middeniya area contain chemicals used in the production of Crystal Methamphetamine, also known as ‘Ice’. 

The report was handed over to the police today(19).

The Western Province North Crime Division recovered approximately 50,000 kilograms of the chemicals on 6 September. 

The find was a result of interrogating an underworld figure, 'Bako Saman', who was arrested in Indonesia. 

Authorities suspect the chemicals were intended for major drug traffickers known as 'Kehelbaddara Padme' and 'Kudu Nilanga'.

A separate report from the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board had also recently confirmed that 17 of the 20 samples tested contained chemicals used to manufacture the drug.
