The Nalanda Vikings captained by Akindu Vitharana, clinched the first-ever Bandula Warnapura Memorial Trophy by beating Nalanda Titans by 71-runs in the final played at Nalanda College Grounds, Campbell Place on Wednesday (18).

Set a target of 155 to win, the Vikings scored 154 for 8 in their allotted 25 overs. Thusira Radeesha was their top scorer with 38 while Yenula Lometh scored 24.

In their reply the Nalanda Titans had mustered only 83 for 9 with Dhihen Pathiraja making the top score of 21.

For the winners Vidula Chinyanga had been the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3 for 26 while Vitharana and Lometh had grabbed two wickets each to secure the victory.

Akindu Vitharana received the Bandula Warnapura Memorial Trophy at the awards ceremony. The tournament organised by the Past Cricketers Association of Nalanda College featured four teams namely Nalanda Vikings, Nalanda Titans, Nalanda Wizards and Nalanda Warriors.
