Dr. Ajith Dantanarayana, Director of the Castle Street Hospital for Women in Colombo, has clarified that no ova (egg) donation programme is currently being conducted at the hospital.

He confirmed that only the sperm donation programme is in operation. “The sperm bank, launched recently, has already registered over 150 male donors.

So far, ten women have conceived, while more than 200 others are receiving support through the programme,” Dr. Dantanarayana stated.

He dismissed recent media reports suggesting the launch of an egg donation programme as false, emphasising that such a programme is not underway at the hospital.

Dr. Dantanarayana added that the hospital’s sperm donation initiative aims to assist couples facing infertility, providing a safe and scientific path to parenthood.
