Western Province (WP) Governor Hanif Yusoof announced that electric waste-collecting boats have been introduced on Beira Lake as part of the "Clean Sri Lanka" initiative.

According to a post on X, the first trials for the boats began last week. These solar-powered vessels can each collect up to 3,000 kg of floating solid waste per day. 

The plan is to eventually deploy up to four boats on the lake to aid in its restoration.
