Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), conducted key discussions with Sri Lanka’s leadership during her visit to Colombo.
The IMF Chief met with Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya at Temple Trees and also held talks with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the Presidential Secretariat.
During her meetings, Georgieva praised Sri Lanka’s ongoing efforts to stabilize its economy amid recent challenges and natural disasters, highlighting the government's resilience and proactive management.
She expressed solidarity with the country, especially in light of the devastating cyclone that recently affected several regions, emphasizing the need for renewed economic momentum and timely assistance in housing, land rehabilitation, and livelihoods.
The discussions also covered Sri Lanka’s economic recovery plans, post-disaster support, and the next phase of the IMF-supported reform programme.
The Managing Director acknowledged the swift government response to the crisis and noted that the IMF has provided over $200 million in emergency financing to aid recovery efforts.
