Residents in the vicinity of the Mavil Aru Anicut are being immediately evacuated due to water overflowing from the top of the bund.

Eastern Province Governor Jayantha Lal Ratnasekera confirmed the evacuations but emphasised that the bund has not breached. 

The Governor urged the public not to be misled by false rumours.

The evacuation process is being carried out in coordination with security forces, and the District Secretary stated that the situation is being closely monitored. 

This necessary measure is being taken to ensure the safety of the local population.
