Eight Public Health Inspectors (PHIs) in the Colombo District have contracted dengue while carrying out prevention and control operations, health officials announced.

The PHI Union stated several other health workers have also been infected as the dengue situation continues to worsen across the district.

During inspections in June, legal action was taken against 1,186 individuals for failing to comply with dengue prevention measures, with fines totalling Rs. 12.25 million.

Officials stated inspections and enforcement will continue without exception, regardless of a person's status or position.
