The Postal Department is reportedly losing Rs. 600–800 million annually after the introduction of the GovPay digital platform for traffic fine payments, according to the Postal Trade Unions Front (PTUF).
The trade union claims the new system has wiped out post office-based fine revenue and highlights that the Postal Department had already developed an SMS notification system to modernize fine payments, but it was not implemented due to a lack of police cooperation.
While not opposing technology, the union urged the government to revise GovPay and integrate the Postal Department’s SMS fine system, warning that the ongoing revenue loss could impact the Treasury.
