The Department of Motor Traffic has issued 400,000 permanent driving licences to drivers who were previously given temporary licences.

Temporary licences were issued due to a shortage of permanent licence cards.

Commissioner General of Motor Traffic Kamal Amarasinghe stated that a further 100,000 permanent licences have been printed and will be distributed soon.

Procurement for the import of one million additional licence cards has also been completed, he noted.
