No shortage in fertilizer for Yala season: Agriculture Minister

11 May 2026 | BY Staff Writer

Minister of Agriculture K. D. Lal Kantha has reassured farmers that there is no shortage of fertilizer and that supplies will be adequate for the upcoming Yala season.

He emphasised that fertilizer distribution is currently ongoing smoothly through Govi Jana Seva centres nationwide.

The Minister also addressed recent concerns regarding fertilizer distribution, noting that it had been temporarily suspended through the private sector at the ministry’s request. However, he confirmed that this suspension has now been lifted and distribution through all channels will resume as usual.

“There will be no issue with fertilizer for any crop during the Yala season, whether it is vegetables, coconut, tea, or paddy,” he stated confidently.

While acknowledging that some distribution-related issues had arisen, Minister Lal Kantha assured the public that the ministry is actively working to resolve them.

The Minister also condemned what he described as political attempts to create an illusion of fertilizer shortages and to falsely claim that fertilizer had been purchased at inflated prices.
