President Anura Kumara Dissanayake officially opened a wax museum at the renovated Ehelepola Walawwa in Kandy, now under the care of the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. The project, valued at Rs. 300 million, aims to preserve the archaeological and cultural significance of the Kandyan Kingdom.
The museum showcases traditional architecture, crafts, and royal customs, including a reconstructed royal dining area. It also houses 35 lifelike wax statues of historic figures such as Ehelepola Maha Adikaram, King Wimaladharmasuriya I, and Ven. Wariyapola Sri Sumangala Thera.
Designed by Athula Herath of Gampola, the museum is expected to become a key tourist attraction and educational hub for understanding Sri Lanka’s Kandyan legacy.
