Sri Lanka reports surge in teenage pregnancy

13 Aug 2024

Sri Lanka has seen a significant rise in teenage pregnancy and sexual abuse, with 28 cases of teenage pregnancy reported in the first half of 2024, according to the National Child Protection Authority (NCPA).

Accordingly, 23 cases of rape and 157 cases of grave sexual abuse have been documented so far this year.

These figures highlight an alarming trend in the vulnerability of Sri Lankan youth, particularly girls.
