Sri Lanka has been endorsed for a pioneering project under the Kunming Biodiversity Fund, making it one of the first countries worldwide to advance large-scale implementation of the Kunming‑Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
The project, focused on combating invasive alien species, aims to establish a unified national biosecurity system, update policies, and create community-driven ecological and economic benefits.
Led by the Ministry of Environment and supported by FAO, this initiative marks a significant step toward turning global biodiversity commitments into lasting national action, with international financing helping to address critical conservation challenges across the island.
