The Department of Meteorology has issued an ‘Amber’ advisory for severe lightning affecting Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-Central and Uva provinces, and Vavuniya, Kurunegala and Ampara districts.

The advisory, issued at 12 noon today (20), will be in effect until 11.00 p.m.

Thundershowers with severe lightning are likely at some places after 1.00 p.m., with temporary strong winds also possible.

The public is requested to take precautions to minimise damage caused by lightning activity.
