Ceylon Petroleum Corporation has stated that sufficient fuel stocks are available and urged the public not to panic.
Sri Lanka Police have instructed all police stations to prevent the collection of fuel in cans, barrels or other external containers, except for legitimate needs such as fishing, agriculture and industrial use.
Fuel stations have been directed not to dispense fuel into containers until further notice.
Police noted that legal action will be taken against those hoarding fuel, reselling at inflated prices or spreading false information on social media.
