  • Highlights from music’s biggest night of the year

The Grammys are a celebration of culture and current trends that has everyone talking. From discussions about nominations to debates about fashion trends, many people across the globe tune in to watch their favorite artists perform and share in the celebrations.

“I’ve always watched the Grammys because it’s a celebration of fashion, culture and music,” Ahmed Ismail,31, told The Daily Morning Brunch. “And I have to say this year’s Grammys was certainly interesting.”

This year's Grammys marked the 68th awards ceremony. The event was held on February 1st at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles and was attended by several notable figures.

Diverse and beautiful

One important aspect of music is that it highlights a culture. And the Grammys definitely highlighted the beauty and diversity of the music industry.

“I was really happy when Bad Bunny’s album Debi Tirar Mas Fotos won the album of the year award,” Nethmi Botheju,22, said. “Not only is it the first non-English album to win but it also highlights the importance of diversity.”

Botheju said that the celebration of diversity has always been important in the music and art spaces.

“A long time ago we would have seen predominantly white musicians dominating the music industry,” she said. “But now we are lucky to see a Spanish album getting worldwide recognition, musicians from different ethnicities and nationalities and a South African comedian hosting the ceremony.”

The ceremony was hosted by comedian and host Trevor Noah who kept the viewers excited and engaged.

“Any event hosted by Trevor Noah is guaranteed to be good,” Ismail said. “Not only does he have a great sense of humor but he also shows a sense of awareness that is rare in most event hosts.”

Ismail said that the sense of diversity and respect displayed at this year’s Grammys made the night of music memorable.

The performances

Not only is the Grammy awards a recognition of music but a chance to see our favourite artists perform live.

“This year’s awards ceremony was amazing because of the live performances done by Olivia Dean and Sabrina Carpenter,” Nifla Niyas, 28, said. “Not only do their music resonate with so many women but they also show us that we can be anything we want to.”

The performances were widely discussed online, with many viewers sharing clips and reactions across social media platforms. Live performances remain one of the most anticipated aspects of the Grammys, giving audiences the opportunity to experience music in a more intimate and expressive way.

“Live performances make the Grammys feel special,” Ismail said. “You don’t just hear the song,  you feel the emotion behind it. It reminds you why music matters so much.”

Several performances stood out for their visual storytelling and strong vocal delivery, with artists using choreography, lighting, and live instrumentation to elevate their songs. For many fans, these performances became memorable moments that defined the night.

The wins

A major highlight of the night was the recognition of artists whose work dominated charts and conversations over the past year. Several wins were met with loud applause, both at the venue and from viewers watching at home, as fans celebrated seeing their favourite musicians acknowledged on a global stage.

“I think the wins this year felt well deserved,” Ahmed Ismail said. “You could tell that a lot of thought had gone into recognising music that actually shaped the year.”

Many viewers noted that the awards reflected songs and albums that had strong cultural relevance and commercial success. From emotionally resonant songwriting to innovative production, the winning artists represented a range of sounds that defined the current music landscape.

Album and song recognition

One of the most talked-about moments of the night was the Album of the Year award. Fans across social media shared their excitement, with many stating that the winning album had been a soundtrack to their year.

“When an album you’ve listened to constantly wins such a big award, it feels personal,” Nethmi Botheju said. “It validates how much that music meant to you.”

Similarly, wins in major song categories sparked debate and celebration in equal measure. While some fans felt their personal favourites were overlooked, others expressed satisfaction at seeing songs with strong lyrical depth and emotional impact being recognised.

“The song wins made sense to me,” Nifla Niyas said. “They weren’t just catchy , they had meaning, and you could feel that connection with listeners.”

Artist achievements

Several artists also marked personal milestones with their wins, using their acceptance speeches to reflect on their journeys and thank collaborators, fans, and family members. These moments added emotional depth to the ceremony, reminding viewers that behind every award is years of work and perseverance.

“Acceptance speeches are one of my favourite parts of the Grammys,” Ismail said. “You really see how much the award means to the artist.”

For emerging artists, winning a Grammy was seen as a defining moment that could shape their future careers. Many viewers expressed excitement about what these artists might create next, following their recognition on such a prestigious platform.

Genre-based awards

Beyond the major categories, wins across different genres highlighted the breadth of music being produced today. From pop and R&B to alternative and hip-hop, the awards acknowledged artists pushing boundaries within their respective genres.

“I liked that different genres were given space to shine,” Botheju said. “It didn’t feel like only one type of music was being rewarded.”

These wins also encouraged listeners to explore music outside their usual preferences, with many discovering new artists through the awards ceremony.

Memorable moments

Alongside the winners, certain moments of the night captured the audience’s attention, from surprise collaborations to unexpected speeches. These unscripted events often created lasting impressions and became highlights that fans would remember long after the awards ended.

“Those spontaneous moments are what make the Grammys feel real,” Niyas said. “You get a glimpse of the artists’ personalities, not just their talent.”

Social media amplified these moments, with clips being shared widely and discussions forming around some of the night’s most memorable occurrences. Fans and critics alike analysed performances, wins, and speeches, keeping the excitement alive well beyond the ceremony.

A satisfying conclusion

As the night drew to a close, the overall response to the wins was largely positive. While debates and differing opinions remained, many viewers agreed that the awards captured the spirit of the past year in music.

“At the end of the day, it felt like a good year for music,” Niyas said. “And the Grammys reflected that.”

With memorable performances, thoughtful hosting, and wins that sparked conversation, this year’s Grammys reaffirmed its place as one of the most influential nights in the music industry – celebrating not just success, but the lasting impact of music itself.
