The Ministry of Education (MOE), Higher Education and Vocational Education has issued guidelines to Provincial Directors of Education to prevent the spread of Enterovirus Meningitis.

The action follows instructions from the Ministry of Health and Mass Media after cases were reported in several districts.

The disease was first identified in Deniyaya in April and has since been reported in Nuwara Eliya District, Kandy District and Badulla District.

Authorities say a significant number of infections have been reported among schoolchildren, prompting schools to implement preventive measures.
