An attempted abduction of a mother and her two children was foiled when an attentive police sergeant noticed the distressed look on the face of the mother and her signal for help yesterday (09).

The incident took place at the Gelanigama Interchange of the Southern Expressway, when a 37 year old woman and her two children aged 15 years and 7 years, was abducted from their home in Bandaragama.

While attempting to exit the expressway, the mother had managed to get the attention of the police sergeant at the exit, who immediately sprang into action by alerting other officials and rescuing the abductees.

Two suspects have been arrested so far, one of which is the second husband of the woman who was abducted. It was revealed that the couple had engaged in an argument, which thereafter resulted in the woman taking her children and leaving their home in Talpe.

The husband, in an attempt to bring back his wife and children, had forcibly made the wife and children leave their refuge in Bandaragama and was taken in a vehicle headed to Talpe.

The two suspects are currently in police custody and will be produced to the court today.
