104 shifted to safety as heavy rains impact multiple districts

Sri Lanka has not reported any major disaster situation despite ongoing adverse weather conditions, according to Pradeep Kodippili, Director of the Disaster Management Centre (DMC).


Speaking at a media briefing today (15) , Kodippili said 104 people have been relocated to two temporary safe centres in the Kalutara and Puttalam districts due to weather-related impacts.


Of those sheltered, 29 individuals are currently housed in Kalutara, while 75 people have been accommodated in Puttalam.


He further noted that adverse weather has affected residents in Ratnapura, Galle, Monaragala, Batticaloa, Kalutara, Colombo, Puttalam and Jaffna districts.


Meanwhile, districts including Colombo, Kalutara, Ratnapura and Kegalle recorded rainfall ranging between 60 mm and 175 mm over the past 24 hours as heavy rains continued across several parts of the island.
