The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) has decided to launch an investigation into alleged corruption and fraud within the Health Ministry’s Medical Supplies Division (MSD).
In a letter addressed to the Citizens’ Power Against Bribery, Corruption and Waste organisation, the CIABOC's Assistant Director (Complaint Management), had informed that the CIABOC had decided to launch an investigation into the matter.
Speaking to The Daily Morning yesterday (15), the organisation's President Kamantha Thushara said that the organisation had requested the CIABOC to probe a number of alleged irregularities and fraud connected to the procurement of pharmaceutical drugs and medical equipment by the MSD. The complaint focuses on the purchase of various types of medicines and medical equipment. .
Over the years, the health sector has faced repeated allegations of corruption and mismanagement, especially when it comes to the procurement of medicines, medical equipment, and infrastructure projects. At different times, several key figures, including former Health Ministers and top officials, have been arrested or questioned over these issues.
