The Cabinet has approved a proposal to establish mechanical sewage treatment plants at selected Local Government (LG) institutions using Rs. 200 million from the Clean Sri Lanka Programme.

The move aims to address serious gaps in sewage and waste management services, which have resulted in improper disposal of sewage into the environment in several areas.

The initiative is aligned with the National Policy on Waste Management and seeks to strengthen infrastructure and improve public health standards by completing the country’s waste treatment service chain.
