An unannounced island-wide power cut was reported a short while ago, causing widespread disruptions across the country.
Speaking to The Morning, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) stated that its System Control Centre is actively working to resolve the outage and restore electricity supply.
However, the cause of the outage had not been initially identified.
The Ministry of Power and Energy has since confirmed that an unspecified ‘emergency situation’ at the Panadura grid substation triggered the nationwide blackout.
Further updates are expected as efforts to restore power continue.
