Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has denied recent allegations made by Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe that it had attempted to transfer USD 2 million from its accounts.
In a statement, SLC said that it "categorically denies any attempt to transfer funds from its accounts to third-party accounts" and that the allegations were "false and factually incorrect."
SLC said that it keeps its USD funds in USD accounts to "leverage exchange rate fluctuations." However, it also needs to carry out its operations in Sri Lanka and fulfil financial obligations to stakeholders in local currency (LKR).
To do this, SLC said it transfers funds from its USD account to its LKR accounts. This is a "longstanding practice," SLC said, as it does not derive significant income in local currency.
SLC said that it operates following the provisions of its constitution, which prohibits cash payments exceeding Rs. 10,000/-.
The organization has also released a schedule of pending payments, for which cheques have been issued to suppliers, stakeholders, and third parties.
SLC said it remains committed to transparency and upholding the integrity of its operations.
