The Department of Meteorology Sri Lanka has issued an Amber advisory warning of severe lightning in several parts of the country.

Thundershowers with intense lightning are expected after 1.00 p.m. in Galle, Matara, Kalutara and Ratnapura districts, with the possibility of strong localised winds.

The public has been urged to take precautions, including seeking indoor shelter, avoiding open areas, and refraining from using wired electrical appliances during thunderstorms.

Residents are also advised to remain alert for falling trees and power lines and to contact disaster management authorities in case of emergencies.
