Police have arrested several individuals, including the Convenor of the Inter-University Students’ Federation (IUSF), Madushan, during a protest held today (16) by the Allied Health Science Graduates’ Union near the Ministry of Health in Colombo.

The demonstration was held over multiple demands, but authorities intervened citing a court order restricting protest activity in key areas.

Earlier in the day, the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court issued an order barring the protesters from entering Colombo Hospital Square and the Ministry of Health premises, and from disrupting hospital operations between 12 noon today and 5 p.m. tomorrow.

Despite the legal directive, the group continued its protest, prompting police to make the arrests.

Further legal proceedings are expected to follow regarding the breach of the court order.
