The US dollar breached the Rs. 310 level against the Sri Lankan rupee on Tuesday, marking the first time the spot rate has crossed this threshold since 29 February 2024, according to data published by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
The Central Bank’s Indicative Rate of the USD/LKR spot exchange rate was recorded at Rs. 310.02, signaling a renewed weakening of the local currency amid ongoing foreign exchange market pressures.
The Central Bank’s daily exchange rate table showed the buying rate of the US dollar at Rs. 306.28, while the selling rate stood at Rs. 313.81. The latest movement comes after the Central Bank reported that the Sri Lankan rupee depreciated by 5.6% against the US dollar during 2025.
