22 Feb 2026 | BY Staff Writer

Eheliyagoda in Ratnapura received 171mm of rain in the past 24 hours, the highest recorded in Sri Lanka, the Department of Meteorology noted.

Heavy showers also affected parts of Sabaragamuwa, Central, and Eastern provinces yesterday, with some areas receiving over 100mm.

The Meteorology Department stated that low-level atmospheric disturbances may trigger thundershowers across several areas after 1.00 p.m. today, with possible rainfall exceeding 100mm and gusty winds.

Kandy may see evening thundershowers, potentially affecting the T20 World Cup match at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium between Sri Lanka and England.

Rainfall is expected to ease from tomorrow, the Department added.
