President highlights child welfare and education reforms on World Children’s Day

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has stressed the Government’s responsibility to ensure the well-being, protection and development of children, while providing equal opportunities for them to achieve their aspirations.


In a World Children’s Day message, he highlighted measures to expand access to education, healthcare, nutrition, social protection, sports and recreation, while protecting children from violence and discrimination.


The President also highlighted ongoing education reforms aimed at developing a skills-based system suited to changing global conditions and reducing unnecessary pressure on children and parents.


He also noted measures to support children in care and expand scholarships and other programmes focused on child protection and social security.
