The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal to allow QR-based payments below Rs. 5,000 without charges for both sender and receiver.

The move aims to promote digital transactions and support the growth of Sri Lanka’s digital economy.

The Department of Government Information noted low usage of LankaQR despite support from multiple financial institutions and apps.

The measure is expected to increase adoption of QR payments for everyday transactions.
