Nalanda College, Colombo Principal Thilak Wattuhewa is reportedly looking at sending a letter of demand to the State-owned media institution, the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC), for having telecasted a false news item related to him.
According to news reports, Wattuhewa is presently in India on official duty as President of the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association.
However, the noon and evening news telecasts of SLRC on 16 December had claimed that Wattuhewa had left the school cricket awards ceremony as he had not got a seat in the front.
The school’s past pupils’ association President Ajith Galappatti had also written a letter to the SLRC news director, condemning the news article and announcing that legal action would be initiated against the said news item.
The letter had further claimed that great harm had been caused to the good name of the school and its principal by the said news item, adding that the news station should have clarified facts before telecasting the news item.
