President outlines measures to address gas storage issue

03 Mar 2026 | BY Staff Writer

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake stated in Parliament that a sudden rise in demand has led to a gas supply issue in the country.

He noted that Sri Lanka’s total storage capacity is 8,000 metric tons, allowing supplies to be stored for about one week.

The President stated that steps are being prepared to introduce long-term solutions, adding that a ship carrying 100,000 new cylinders for Litro Gas Lanka is scheduled to arrive by March 12.

He further noted that the likelihood of a future crisis in gas and fuel is very low.
