Sri Lanka’s worker remittances grew by 26% in year-on-year terms between the months of January to May, compared to the same time last year, reaching $ 3.9 billion in the first five months of the year, Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) data shows.
Further, the CBSL stated that the total value of foreign remittances received from migrant workers in May this year was $ 847 million. In May of 2025, Sri Lanka received a total of $ 641.7 million, indicating a $ 205.3 million increase in remittances value.
