The Central Crimes Investigation Bureau (CCIB) has detained Ven. Rajangane Saddharathana, a monk known for his social media presence, over allegations of issuing threats against senior government officials. Police confirmed that the arrest stems from social media posts threatening Minister of Public Security Ananda Wijepala and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Priyantha Weerasuriya.

Ven. Rajangane Saddharathana Thero, who is active on YouTube and has gained notoriety for his controversial statements, attracted considerable public attention and debate. 

His actions have sparked concern among authorities and the public, prompting swift legal action.

In a related development, the Sri Lanka Ramanna Maha Nikaya's Working Committee decided on 2 April, 2025, to expel Ven. Rajangane Saddharathana Thero from the monastic community, citing his conduct and social media activities as reasons for the disciplinary action.
