Drug busts: Brit nabbed with Rs. 460 m worth Kush

  • 200 kg Rs. 87 m KG seized in Pesalai

A large consignment of Kush cannabis, illegally brought to Sri Lanka by a British national female who arrived from Bangkok, Thailand, has been seized by the Sri Lanka Customs. The narcotics were discovered during a special raid conducted by the Narcotics Control Unit of the Customs. 

The seizure took place on Monday afternoon (12) during a targeted inspection of the suspect’s luggage as she attempted to pass through the Customs upon arrival in the island. According to Customs officials, the total weight of the confiscated narcotics is 46 kg, with an estimated street value of approximately Rs. 460 million. The suspect, along with the seized consignment, has been handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau, officials confirmed.

Meanwhile, earlier, over 200 kg of Kerala ganja (KG) had been seized in an operation in the Pesalai beach area, Mannar, the Navy said. The operation also led to the apprehension of a dinghy in connection to the smuggling racket. The search was mounted by the Sri Lanka Naval Service Gajaba in the North Central Naval Command. The gross street value of the stock was estimated to exceed Rs. 87 million. The stock of Kerala cannabis and the dinghy were to be handed over to the Pesalai Police.
