The Samagi Jana Balawegaya(SJB) has submitted a proposal to Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne seeking a Parliamentary Select Committee to address delays in resolving pending court cases.

The proposal, initiated by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, seeks solutions to a backlog of around 1.1 million cases.

The committee would also examine prison overcrowding, with the current prison population exceeding 40,000 despite capacity for around 10,000 inmates.
