Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda officially assumed duties as the new Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy at Navy Headquarters today (31). 

He was appointed following a presentation of the official letter by Secretary to the President Nandika Sanath Kumanayake on December 30.

Vice Admiral Banagoda, who previously served as Chief of Staff and held various key naval positions, has been awarded the Rana Sura Padakkama for gallantry and the Uththama Sewa Padakkama for his dedication and service.

The outgoing Navy Commander, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, was promoted to Admiral on 30 December, 2024.
