Showers are expected at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Southern provinces today (17), according to the Department of Meteorology.

Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm is possible in some areas of Galle, Matara, Kalutara and Ratnapura districts.

Several spells of showers are expected in the North-Western Province and in the Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts.

Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the Uva and Eastern provinces, and in the Mullaitivu and Polonnaruwa districts, after 1.00 p.m.

The public has been advised to take precautions against temporary, localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
