J’pura University wins Inter-University Cricket C’ship

Sri Jayawardenepura University recently won the championship of the 2022 Inter-University Cricket Tournament beating Moratuwa University by eight wickets.

Sri Jayawardenepura University beat Kelaniya University by six wickets, Wayamba University by 15 runs, and the University of the Visual and Performing Arts by eight wickets in the group stage. 

In the quarterfinals, they beat Rajarata University by three wickets while beating Jaffna University by six wickets in the semifinals. 

In the finals, J’pura beat Moratuwa University by eight wickets to lift the championship. 

A total of 16 university teams participated in this year’s tournament and competed for the championship under four groups. Sri Jayawardenepura University managed to take the lead in Group A, remaining undefeated, while Colombo University managed to take the lead by being undefeated in Group B. Peradeniya University took the lead in Group C and Sabaragamuwa University came ahead in Group D. The universities of Wayamba, Jaffna, Rajarata, and Moratuwa managed to secure the semifinals by ranking second in those groups.

Jaffna University, North West University, Sri Jayawardenepura University, and Moratuwa University managed to advance to the semifinals. 

Accordingly, in the first semifinal match between Jaffna and Sri Jayawardenepura University, Sri Jayawardenepura won by six wickets, while Moratuwa University won by seven wickets in the match between Wayamba and Moratuwa University and qualified for the final.
