The Ministry of Health (MOH) is set to launch a transformative pilot project tomorrow ( 6) at the Maharagama Apeksha Hospital, aiming to replace traditional hospital "kitchen" meals with high-quality, nutritious dining.
Moving away from the traditional single-plate method, patients will now be served meals on specialized plates with separate sections for rice, vegetables, pickles, and proteins (meat, fish, or eggs).
Doctors believe this presentation will significantly improve patient appetite and morale.
A state-of-the-art industrial kitchen capable of preparing meals for 2,000 patients at a time will be officially opened in conjunction with the launch.
Hospital kitchens are being renamed "Food and Beverage Departments." Staff have undergone specialized training in modern food preparation and service techniques to match these new standards.
The Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Mass Media plan to expand this model to all government hospitals island-wide following the pilot's success.
