The Department of Meteorology has issued an “Amber” advisory for strong winds and rough seas in the sea areas extending from Hambantota to Pottuvil.

Strong gusty winds of up to 50–60 kmph are expected in these sea areas, while wave heights could increase to around 2.0–3.0 metres in the sea areas extending from Chilaw to Pottuvil via Galle, Matara and Hambantota.

There is also a possibility of seawater inundation in near-shore areas extending from Beruwala to Matara via Galle.

Naval and fishing communities engaged in activities in the affected sea areas have been advised to remain vigilant.
