Remanded MP Namal Rajapaksa has been granted permission to receive cooked meals from home, according to the Department of Prisons.

Prisons Media Spokesperson Senaka Palletenna stated that the permission was granted following a request made on behalf of the MP.

Rajapaksa was ordered to be remanded until 18 September by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court following his arrest by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) over alleged bribery in connection with the Airbus deal.

Special security arrangements have been implemented around the ward where he is being held at the Colombo Remand Prison. Permission has also been granted for up to three visitors per day.

Meanwhile, his mother Shiranthi Rajapaksa and MP Rohitha Abeygunawardena visited the Welikada Prison this morning (7).
