Shahid Zumri of Isipathana College scored twice in the Cup Final against Royal College as they lifted the U-18 All-Island Sevens Championship yesterday (5) at the Bogambara Stadium.

Isipathana College made their way to the finals beating Science College in the quarters by 28-12. In the semis, they were up against the strong St. Peter’s College side. After a tight tussle, the Green Machine won the game 19-12, to book the spot in the finals.

Royal College made their way to the finals beating archrivals S. Thomas’ College in the quarters by 12-10. In the semis, they were up against Vidyartha College. The game went right down to the wire, with both teams deadlocked at five points each. However, at sudden death extra time, Royal College scored the winning try to book their place in the finals.

The finals was poised to be a close one but it was the Green Machine that controlled the game perfectly. Skipper Shahid Zumri scored the only try in the first half to take a 7-0 lead into the break.

In the second half, Royal College were not allowed to get out of their own half. After several phases by the Green Machine, Zumri showed his skills on foot to dance through the middle and score the second try of the game. Despite desperate efforts from the Royalists, Isipathana College sealed the win with a late try from Abdullah Azeez.

Dons take the Plate

The Dons once again proved that they are a force to reckon with as they lifted the Plate Championship beating St. Joseph’s College by 19-17 in the finals. At the break, the Joes were leading 5-0.
