The Federation of University Teachers’ Associations (FUTA) is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya today (16) to discuss issues faced by university academics.

FUTA Senior Lecturer Charudaththe Illangasinghe stated that the federation will further intensify its trade union action until satisfactory solutions are provided to its demands.

Meanwhile, the Ceylon Teachers’ Union has raised concerns over a shortage of around 46,000 teachers in schools across Sri Lanka.

Union President Priyantha Fernando noted that delays in releasing results of a competitive teacher recruitment examination have contributed to the shortage.
