The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) will continue its trade union action after discussions with the Health Minister ended with only partial agreement.
GMOA Secretary Prabath Sugathadasa said the meeting was “not a complete success,” adding that the union will decide this week whether to intensify the strike.
Doctors are currently refraining from issuing prescriptions for patients to obtain medicines or tests from private-sector pharmacies and labs.
The GMOA’s Central Committee also discussed stronger union actions.
The union had earlier demanded a time-bound plan to resolve long-standing issues in the health sector, warning that the lack of solutions in the 2026 Budget threatens the stability of Sri Lanka’s free healthcare system.
