A 30cm tsunami wave reached Japan’s northern island of Hokkaido following a massive earthquake off Russia’s far east, NHK reports.

Authorities warned larger waves up to 3 meters—could follow along Japan’s eastern coastline, from Hokkaido to Wakayama.

Over 900,000 residents across 133 municipalities were advised to evacuate.

No injuries or damage have been reported so far.
