Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon has vowed to move ahead with ongoing operations, refusing to reverse actions taken against the underworld despite threats.
Tennakoon has said the Police will not be intimidated by death threats issued via social media and that Police personnel are prepared to commit their lives to eliminate the underworld and drug mafia, just like they faced terrorism in the past.
The IGP had made this statement at the incineration of more than 355 kg of seized cocaine at a specially-built incinerator at Wanathawilluwa.
According to Tennakoon, the second stage of the ‘Yukthiya’ Operation will focus on seizing illegal firearms.
He added that a total of 296 firearms had been seized since last December.
